Handmade Fridge Magnet - Sylt - Hörnum Tetrapod with Gull

Handmade fridge magnet of a tetrapod on Sylt's Hörnum-Odde, with a gull perched on top.

Bring a piece of iconic European heritage into your home with this minimalist architectural magnet. Part of our curated island collection, this piece features a precision illustration of a concrete tetrapod on the Hörnum-Odde, with a herring gull resting on its upper leg.

Tetrapods and Gulls: Two Natives of the Hörnum-Odde

At the southern tip of Sylt, where the island narrows to a windswept dune and heath landscape, the Hörnum-Odde takes the full force of the North Sea. The concrete elements that stand there are called tetrapods, from the Greek tetra (four) and pous (foot): four conical legs meeting at a central body, so that whichever way one lands, three legs rest on the ground and one points up. Stacked, they interlock into a slope that absorbs wave energy instead of reflecting it.

The gulls treat them as a vantage point. On a coast with so little elevation, a tetrapod field is one of the few places a bird can stand above the sand and watch the water. The pairing is the whole character of this stretch of coast: heavy engineered stone below, something weightless on top.

Unique Design Aesthetic

Our magnets stand out through their precision orthographic architectural drawings. By using clean, technical lines and avoiding perspective distortion, we capture the essential geometry and timeless beauty of the subject. It is more than a souvenir; it is a pocket-sized work of art for design lovers and collectors.

Traditional Craftsmanship

Each magnet is individually hand-made in our workshop using traditional bookbinding techniques. We produce in small series to ensure the highest quality and attention to detail for every single piece.
