Standing proudly on the rugged "Ellenbogen" (Elbow) peninsula—the northernmost point of Germany—the List Ost Lighthouse is a maritime monument of exceptional historical value. Built in 1857 while the island of Sylt was still under Danish rule, this striking tower and its twin, List West, share the distinction of being the oldest cast-iron lighthouses in Germany.

Activated on January 1, 1858, the List Ost tower was engineered to guide trading vessels safely through the treacherous shallows of the Lister Tief. Easily identifiable by its classic white facade, single bright red band, and red lantern roof, it remains an active navigational aid today. While the interior is closed to the public, its lonely, picturesque placement amidst the wind-swept dune grass makes it one of Sylt's most beloved and photographed landmarks, capturing the pure, elemental beauty of the North Sea coast.
