Originally designed by master builder George Bähr and erected between 1726 and 1743, the Frauenkirche is celebrated for its monumental sandstone dome—affectionately known as the "Steinerne Glocke" (Stone Bell). After its destruction during the air raids of February 1945, the ruin stood for decades as a poignant anti-war memorial. Following German reunification, an extraordinary international effort meticulously rebuilt the church, incorporating thousands of original, dark-weathered stones alongside light sandstone, culminating in its reconsecration in 2005.
